Here Are Our Favorite Retro Bubblegums 🫧

Back in the day...there were some great Bubblegums!

Do you like Bubblegum?

Some people enjoy it more than others – but either way, you probably have some strong memories of it from your childhood.

Did you ever compete with your friends to see who could blow the biggest bubble? Maybe you were the type to throw it out as soon as the flavor was gone...or the type to keep it in your mouth for ages.

Obviously, we love Bubblegum at Life is Sweet! So, today, we're talking everything Retro Bubblegum! (Because they just don't make it like they used to...)

The History of Bubblegum

The concept of gum has been around for thousands of years. But Bubblegum wasn't invented until 1928!

By 1928, The Frank Fleer candy company had already been making chewing gum for decades. But they wanted to outdo the competition in the gum industry – so they created a gum that could be blown into bubbles.

That gum was none other than the infamous Dubble Bubble!

Since then, Bubblegum has been delighting kids (and adults!) everywhere – and it has taken on so many different forms.

Our Top Retro Bubblegums

Bubblegum has come a long way since 1928! But we still love the classics. Here are our top five retro bubblegums.

5. Big League Chew

This beloved gum was introduced in the '80s. It's one of the only shredded Bubblegums out there – and of course it features the infamous baseball player on the package!

4. Bubblegum Cigarettes

Sticks of bubblegum covered in powdered sugar!

Who doesn't remember these? These (along with candy cigarettes) were a huge part of our childhoods. They made us feel so grown up...

3. El Bubble (Bubblegum Cigars)

Have you ever tried these? They're so much fun!

Bubblegum Cigars come in three flavors: Banana, Mint (sometimes Apple!) and "Fruit."

2. Gold Mine Bubblegum

Here's another fun one!

This gum comes packaged in a burlap sack – and it's made to look like little nuggets of gold! It's been around since at least the 1940s.

1. Dubble Bubble!

There are so many fun Bubblegums out there – but our #1 favorite is still the original that started it all. When we think of Bubblegum, this is what comes to mind.

Honorable Mention:  Bazooka!

Of course we had to include Bazooka Bubblegum! Remember the Bazooka Joe comics? The good 'ol days... 😎
