Remember Bottle Caps?

The Soda Pop Candy! 🫧

Remember Bottle Caps?

These are so much fun! They're a delicious crossover between soda and candy... and there aren't many soda-flavored candies out there.

Their chalky texture and tanginess makes them similar to  Smarties – if Smarties came in flavors like root beer and cola. And how can you go wrong with that?

Have you ever wondered who invented Bottle Caps...and how they came up with  such a unique idea?

We have, anyway – so we did some digging. Let's take a walk down memory lane!

The History of Bottle Caps

Bottle Caps hit the shelves in 1972. They were originally produced by the Willy Wonka Candy Company (they make a lot of our favorite nostalgic treats, like Nerds and Fun Dip!)

At the time, candy like Bottle Caps were very popular – because they were easy to package and they could withstand heat! Willy Wonka took their already popular SweetTarts and reimagined them.

Soda in glass bottles was popular at the time, so they modeled Bottle Caps after this treat. Everything from the flavor to the shape of the candy. They're made to look like real bottle caps, with the same crimped edges and everything.

Bottle Caps Flavors

The flavors of Bottle Caps are meant to mimic some of the most popular sodas of the '70s.

The flavors are:

🥤 Root Beer

🥤 Cola

🥤 Cherry Cola

🥤 Grape Soda

🥤 Orange Soda

Original Bottle Caps included a lemon-lime soda flavor, but this was eventually replaced by Cherry.

Bottle Caps Today

Luckily for soda lovers everywhere, Bottle Caps are still going strong. They're now made by Ferrara Candy Company (the same company that makes Atomic Fireballs and Lemonheads!) The packaging may be different from what you remember, but the taste is still the same.

And, of course, we have them at Life is Sweet! Click here to get a roll of Bottle Caps!
